In September, our missionary Jodi
McGill received word that our check for
Nickels for Nets was received for
her use. We mailed our check in April. Jodi said in a letter,
"After receiving the word from PCUSA
that our Nickels for Nets check for $687.11
was received and designated for her,
her next step was to request that it go to her program.
The money will be used to purchase
800 nets for pregnant women and under-five years old children
PLUS support the cost of transport
to get the nets to the community and monitor the group.
Thank you. I will be sending photos
in the next week or so. Jodi".
Just think....the nickels we saved
will touch the lives of 800 people and guard them against
malaria!!
Thanks for a job well done.
PW will again be
collecting Christmas cards for
prisoners to mail home,
Last year we collected enough
cards for each woman at the Gadsden Correctional Facility
for Women. We received wonderful
thank you notes from the ladies who were so grateful to
be remembered.
WE NEED
new Christmas cards, unsigned, in a plain envelope,
with a stamp on it. THINK
about the cards you donate. They
will be given to multi-racial women so it's not a good idea
to have a white angel or a group
of white children to be on the card. The verse shouldn't
say" Hope you have your happiest
Christmas ever" because, of course, the person who
receives the card will not be
having their happiest Christmas. Religious cards are
welcomed.
Also cards that have Christmas
trees, birds, wreaths etc. are appropriate. Those free
cards sent out
by charitable organizations are
usually good.
There will be a box in the
narthex office area to place your cards. DEADLINE
IS NOV.17 .
ALSO this year we
will be sending a devotion book to each prisoner to help
them get through the
holidays.
We will be printing this book ourselves and mailing it.
It's a lovely little booklet and
one of the illustrations was drawn by a prisoner in
Illinois.
To help us defray mailing costs
we will sell copies of the book for $3.00 each or 2 for
$5.00.
These make a thoughtful gift for
a friend or student.
