| A Key to a Happy Life

Throughout my life I have been blessed with
good physical, mental, and spiritual health. However, nothing is
perfect—especially the body. And like many of us, I have had surgery on
several occasions. The most serious of those was last February. It
entailed the removal of, among other internal organs, part of my
pancreas to prevent pancreatic cancer.
My recovery has been very good due to kind, caring, and knowledgeable
medical personnel, uplifting spiritual guidance, and the many prayers
and loving attention received from friends and family. In addition, my
lifelong practices of good nutrition, exercise, pursuing intellectual
growth, and being spirituality grounded have served me well.
I believe my overall excellent physical condition definitely contributed
to this speedy recovery.
Over the years my exercise routine has been to walk every day for an
hour, swim laps for at least 45 minutes three times a week, play golf
two or three times a week, and climb six flights of stairs twice a day.
These goals have not been attained recently as I had a re-occurrence of
lower back pain. Eight years ago a ruptured disk in my lower back
required surgery. Thankfully, this time there was no indication for
surgery, and I have been helped through pain medication and physical
therapy. I am doing daily exercises to increase my flexibility and
strengthen my core muscles.
Every day I seem to be feeling less pain and can move more like my old
self. I am allowed to walk and swim so I am returning to what I consider
normal levels in those activities. I still cannot play golf or climb
stairs, but I am looking forward to returning to those activities.
Striving to keep physically, mentally, and spiritually active is my key
to a happy lifestyle.
