On January 17th VPC will be
launching a new and exciting ministry called MOPS, Mothers
of Preschoolers. MOPS is a program designed to nurture
mothers with children from infancy to kindergarten. MOPS
groups meet in churches across the US , Canada , and 19
other countries. The leadership at VPC is excited to reach
out to young families in Venice through this dynamic
ministry.
What Happens at MOPS?
When you walk in the door for a MOPS meeting you are
allowing yourself the opportunity for a few hours of
“Mom-Me” time. Grow as a woman and a mother through
presentations with special speakers covering topics relevant
to moms of preschoolers. Receive encouragement and
inspiration from other moms and mentor moms. Share in small
group discussion.
What about my children?
You will sign your children into the loving care of our
MOPPETS volunteers. They are divided into age-appropriate
groups and involved in planned activities such as stories &
songs, snacks & videos, crafts & games.
How can the members of VPC help?
You may be thinking, “My kids are way past the preschool
years, what can I do to help this ministry?” We need Mentor
Moms (especially you wise grandmothers) to come to the MOPS
meetings and offer words of encouragement and even a loving
hug or two. A Mentor Mom needs to be a great listener and
able to facilitate small group discussions of 6-8 women
…maybe even dispensing some of your well earned wisdom from
time to time.
Or maybe…you just love the sparkling eyes and chubby cheeks
of children. Well, we can use that kind of help too. We need
15 volunteers to help take care of the preschoolers (ages 6
months to 5 years) while the moms are meeting. If you can
use a crayon, sing a song, or build with blocks, this is the
job for you! And don’t forget to bring those grandma size
hugs.
Our Meetings:
MOPS Meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 9:30
am to 11:30 am, beginning January 17th and ending on May
15th. MOPS breaks during the summer months.
